Labor Day Deadline

The Greenwood Democrat will be closed on Monday, September 2 for Labor Day. The deadline for ads and stories for the September 4 edition will be Friday August 30 at 11:30 a.m.

City Council meeting moved

The Greenwood City Council will meet on Tuesday, September 3 instead of Monday, September 2.

Walgreens Breast Cancer Awareness Day

The annual Walgreens Breast Cancer Awareness day will be October 12 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. They are looking for local entertainers. Interested parties can contact Jeannette at 479-414-7545 or inquire at Walgreens in Greenwood. Booths are also available Karren at 479-883-5805 or karrenawareness@gmail.com. A blood drive will be held contact Christy at 479-322-0770. Raffle tickets for a Remington Bolt Action 770 are for sale as well. Donations are also graciously accepted in the store.

Pom Squad Fundraiser

The GHS Pom Squad will be holding a fundraiser at Boo’s Bulldog Diner from 8-11 am on August 31. Boo will donate 15 percent of all sales during that time to the Greenwood High School Pom Squad.

Book signing and country concert

Local author, Nancy Powell, will be at the Hackett Fire Station to sign her books, Dark Secrets and Angels for All. Ray and Joan Pittman and band will provide live country music. Admission is free.

Third Annual Pancake Breakfast

Focus on Greenwood is having their 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 21 at the Pizza Barn. The breakfast runs from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tickets for adults are $4 and children are $2. The menu will be pancakes, sausage, juice, milk or coffee. All proceeds will be used to fund scholarships and provide assistance with medical expenses for local students and families.
