On Saturday, May 4, Gladys Clark received a visit from her daughters, accompanied by staff from the Greenwood Democrat. Clark was nominated for the 2013 Greenwood Democrat Mother of the Year by her daughter, Connie Scharbor and chosen by a third party judge as this year’s winner.
Clark was extremely surprised and thrilled with the unexpected honor. After her daughters opened the gifts for her, she said, “I want to thank everyone for all these gifts. I love them. Every one of them!”
Businesses and individuals from all over the Greenwood area came together to help make Mother’s Day an incredible experience for Gladys Clark.
Aftercare Extraordinaire provided a special Mother’s Day cake and First Baptist Church donated a daily devotional, Jesus Calling. A decorative magnet note board came from the staff at Health Depot while Zebra III Signs & More made a special 2013 Greenwood Democrat Mother of the Year license plate along with a blinged out “Mom” hat. The South Sebastian County Boys & Girls Club provided a yearlong gate pass for all youth sporting events at the Club. Osborn Insurance donated an emergency weather radio. Walters, Gaston, Allison and Parker added an ornate cross-shaped jewelry box and two elegant necklaces to the basket for this deserving mother.
Vache Grasse provided two green fees and free golf cart rental and Rowe Chiropractic donated BioFreeze and Sombra Warm Therapy pain relievers. Local author, Judith Ward Daily signed a copy of her latest book, Sojourner’s Ridge as her gift. Reflections Hair Salon gave “The Perfect Sexy Blow Out Hair Kit” and Fantastic Sams salon donated a gift certificate to their Greenwood Salon.
Arvest and Farmers Bank each provided a Visa gift card. Greenwood Flower & Gifts and The Ware House donated gift cards to their respective stores. Bishop Family Dentistry provided a special meal with an Olive Garden gift card. BancorpSouth added a gift card for Greenwood Flower & Gifts to the basket.
Graham Optical delivered a gift certificate for prescription sunglasses and Phil Hicks provided a hand crafted cedar bird feeder. Wal-Mart donated a Wal-Mart Gift Card while Keith Glass Motors gave cash. JAM Mart made a special certificate for free gas, redeemable at their new Greenwood store and Yeager’s Ace Hardware provided an ACE gift card.
Curves provided a carry bag, a koozie and a two-month membership to their facility. Greenwood Garage Door, Tech Computer Pros and Walgreens each provided gift cards as well.
Vintage Vase provided the Mother’s Day Flowers as well as the basket and wrapping to display all the gifts. Vintage Vase will be hand delivering a flower for each of the mothers receiving honorable mentions along with an elegant certificate of nomination from the Greenwood Democrat.
The Greenwood Democrat provided a crystal award engraved with “2013 Greenwood Democrat Mother of the Year” to Gladys Clark along with a one-year subscription to the Greenwood Democrat.
