Another boy named Jefferson Grey is born to Howell and Sarah Little on Jan. 1, 1883 in Stockdale, Wilson County, Texas. I think he was called Grey when he was younger. His census records have him listed under the name Grey J. or just Grey. You don’t see him called Jefferson Grey until his Texas Death Certificate.
In a 1910 Federal Census under the name Grey J. Little you find him living in Bronte, Coke County, Texas. He is age 27 and single and living as a boarder with another family named Hardin. No occupation is listed for him and most of the other people living here are in their 20’s.
I found an unusual document for Grey Jefferson Little that was hard to read. I increased the print size and it found out it is a registrar’s report for Caldwell County, Lockhart, Texas. It gives his present occupation as Barber. Employees name was E.L. Bluhm. The date was hard to read, but I think it says Sept. 12, 1918.
I didn’t find a marriage certificate but by 1920, this census shows him living with an Ada E. Little, age 33, Felix M. Schuhard, age 33, and Clyde Hull. It gives Grey’s marital status as married and his spouse’s name as Ada E. Little. Ada Elizabeth Allen was born May 16, 1886 in McMahan, Caldwell, Texas. Her parents were Jefferson D. Allen and Olia Allen.
By the 1930 Federal Census Grey Little is living in Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas. He is 47 years old, his wife Ada is 44 and Grey’s mother Sarah, age 78 is also on the census. Apparently Grey and his wife never had children, at least according to census records.
The last census was the 1940 Federal Census. Its show Grey is still married and his occupation is listed as a Proprietor. He owns his own home and the value of it is 1500. They are living on E-market Street, still in Lockhart, Texas.
Jefferson Grey Little died March 5, 1955 in Caldwell County, Texas according to the Texas Death Index. “Find a Grave” document shows he was buried in Lockhart Municipal Park, Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas. His wife Ada died Jan. 4, 1946 in San Antonia, Bexar County, Texas.
Another son is born named George Oren Little. He was born Feb. 19, 1885, Caldwell County, Texas. This information I got off his US World War I Draft Registration Card. I didn’t find a marriage certificate for him and census records didn’t show any children. I ran a copy of his 1920 Federal Census and he was 35 at this time, single, living at Justice Precinct 4, Coke County, Texas. It also says he is living with his mother Sarah, age 67, brother Hurbert, age 16 and Ida age 26.
I found his social security death index and it says his last residence was San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He died Dec. 15, 1967. A copy of his Texas Death Index gives a different date. It says he died Dec. 6, 1967.
Howell and Sarah next had a daughter they named Lydia V., born Aug. 10, 1887 in Stockdale, Wilson County, Texas. She didn’t live very long. She died at the age of 3 on May 18, 1891. She was buried in Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale, Texas.
Lloyd Erestus Little was the next child born. He was born July 2, 1890 in Texas. The 1910 US Federal Census for Lloyd was somewhat confusing. This document spelled his name Loyd and stated his father’s name was S T Little. But it included Lloyd’s brothers and a sister. Listed are S T Little, age 57, Oren, age 25 and Ida, age 17. The next census for 1920 is under the name Loyd E. Little and he is now 29 and married. It includes his wife Gladys Little, age 24. I couldn’t find a marriage certificate or any evidence of children.
The last child born to Howell and Sarah was Ida O. Little. She was born in Jan. 1893. She died sometime in 1920 when she was only age 27. I found no marriage record for her or evidence of children.
We are finally done with Howell Little. Remember he was John Gray Little’s 4th child. Next week we will go to Johns 5th child which was John Morgan Little.
