First Baptist Church host blood drive

First Baptist Church is teaming up with Arkansas Blood Institute (ABI) to host a blood drive from 1:30 to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25. Donors can feel good knowing they are saving as many as three lives. Please bring canned or non-perishable food items to help stock the First Baptist Church’s food pantry for the holidays. In addition, each donor will receive a blood donor T-shirt, health screenings and Donor Rewards points, redeemable for items in ABI’s online store.

Of those eligible to donate blood in the U.S., less than 10 percent give at least annually. Since there is no substitute for human blood, supplies must constantly be renewed. Arkansas Blood Institute encourages all healthy adults, 16 years and older* to make blood donations.

Thanks to its volunteer donors, Arkansas Blood Institute exclusively provides every drop of blood needed by patients to 21 local hospitals in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

“Someone needs blood every two seconds, and since blood can only be used for 42 days, we constantly need people to donate,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and CEO of Arkansas Blood Institute. “Blood is always in need, which is why we are asking Lavaca-area residents to come out and donate.”

If blood donors choose to forgo the donor appreciation item, funds designated for this item will be directed to our partnering organization, Global Blood Fund. Arkansas Blood Institute and the Global Blood Fund (GBF) share a common goal of keeping people healthy.

Donations can be made every 56 days and usually take about an hour. Appointments are not required but can be made at 877-340-8777.
