Dr. Sandy Johnson with Johnson Dermatology, along with her children, Mark and Anna, show their support to Race Director Randy Davis by presenting a $500 check to co-sponsor the FreedomFest 5K hosted by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

The race will be chip timed again this year, a process in which runners run across mats that electronically start and stop their time, making for a more accurate time. In addition to chip timing, runners will be able to register online this year by going to https://mylaps.racepartner.com/greenwoodfreedomfest5k/.

“This is the first year we’ve been able to offer this, and we are very excited about it,” Race Director Randy Davis said. “It is one more convenience for our runners.”

The Freedomfest 5K will take place on July 4 at 7:30 a.m. with check in beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Means Wilkinson Community Room at Farmers Bank. Registration is $20 before or on June 30 or $30 thereafter. T-shirts will be given to the first 300 registrants.

Cash prizes will be given to the race participants with the most patriotic themed attire. “The race has become a tradition here in Greenwood,” Davis states. “In addition to being a tradition, we would like to add a little something to it to make it unique and enjoyable.”
