This year, four students from Greenwood High School have been selected to attend the 2014 Arkansas Governor’s School hosted at Hendrix College. Two students have been selected as alternates. Those selected to attend are Peyton Coffman in English/Language Arts, Emily Fitting in Instrumental Music, Joel Newberry in Instrumental Music and also Analeigh Ulrich in Instrumental Music. Those selected as alternates are Kennedy Black in Instrumental Music and Mattison Fancher in English/Language Arts.
Selection for Governor’s School is based on a combination of ability and interest and is highly competitive. Even though they can only accept 400 students, this year there were over 600 applications from 109 different schools representing 46 counties. The six-week intensive program is in its 35th year.
