The Greenwood Junior High Quiz Bowl Team took fourth place at the Southside High School-sponsored junior high invitational tournament October 12. Twenty-six teams participated in the tournament held at UAFS. Greenwood’s captain, Freshman Jackson Mitchell, was named one of the top ten individual quizzers and was placed on the All-tournament team. Other participating team members were Freshman Bryce Cohea, and eighth graders Olivia Brown, Woody Woodring, Jacob Dewey, Cooper Passmore, Garrett Torrance, and Brianna Griffith.
Greenwood was undefeated in the three preliminary matches, outscoring teams from three Fort Smith schools, Darby 330-225, Chaffin A 310-240, and Ramsey B 370-250. Greenwood was seeded third in the single elimination tournament.
The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals with wins over two Fayetteville schools, Ramay B 425-180 and Woodland A 300-160. In the semifinals Greenwood faced the second seed Conway A. Conway A prevailed 385-220. In the consolation game Greenwood faced fourth seed Ramay A. In a game that was decided by the final question, Ramay A won 265-250. Conway A defeated Chaffin A, an upset winner over first seed Ramsey A, for the championship.
