Mabel Maxey

Mabel E. Maxey, 96, of Fort Smith, died November 11, 2013 in Charleston, Ark. She was born January 25, 1917, in Jacksonville, Texas to the late J.J. and Cannary Simmons Douglas. Mabel was a seamstress at Riverside Furniture and a member of Evangel Temple.

She is survived by her daughter Virginia Green and her husband, Maurice of Lavaca; a son, W.J. “Dub” McCorkle and his wife, Sherri of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Stanley and Brian Green, Alesia Balch, Rebecca Green, Jennifer Cox, Todd, Kimberly and Cody McCorkle and Shelli Baldwin; twenty eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lonnie McCorkle and L.L. Maxey; a son, Escue Douglas; a sister Jewel Davis and a brother, Moody Douglas.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Stanley and Brian Green, Larry Balch, Todd and Cody McCorkle and Jeb Baldwin. Funeral services were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
