<p>Ann Akins and Kay Voss of Alpha Delta Chapter of ESA, sponsors of the Airing of the Quilts, present a check to South Sebastian County Historical Society president Meryl Efurd at the May 16 meeting. Proceeds from the quilt show assist the Society in maintaining their historic properties and preserving local history. ESA is a philanthropic organization and has been in existence in Greenwood for over fifty years.</p>

<p>Jan. 7, 1971. Piggly Wiggly Advertisement Wins National Award. John and Betty Mayo, owners of the Greenwood Piggly Wiggly Market are shown holding a plaque presented them by Swift and Company for having published the Best Swift’s Newspaper Advertisement for 1970. Selected as the outstanding Swift advertisement over hundreds submitted from newspapers including daily papers from all over the nation. The advertising design and layout created by Earl Dodd, Democrat editor and advertising manager. It was composed into type by the Democrat printing staff.</p>
