Ryan Padilla was selected as the 2013 Bulldog of the Year by fan vote. As one of the outstanding new players in the long Dynasty of the Bulldogs, Padilla exemplified what has kept the Bulldogs a winning team.
While seniors like Jabe Burgess and Hoyt Smith led the team to victory over and over again, Padilla showed the true value of the Bulldog leadership. Seniors, coaches and even older players continuously help guide and shape the younger generation, keeping each team near the top of their game.
The 2013 Bulldog of the Year award was presented to Ryan Padilla by another player that highlights these qualities. Drew Morgan was the 2012 Arkansas MVP and continues to offer advice and guidance to younger Bulldogs.
Here are a few questions and answers with Ryan Padilla:
Q: How do you feel about being named the first Greenwood Democrat Bulldog of the year?
A: I feel like it’s a huge honor to be recognized by the community especially when there were so many talented people on our team.
Q: Can you tell us about the people that helped you get to this point?
A: I would have to say Coach Young has been my biggest help this year, because of how he pushed me to get better as a Wide Receiver. However, I also owe a lot to Coach Jones and the rest of the coaches as well for making me a better person, on and off the field.
Q: How did you deal with that playoff loss?
A: I think initially, I was just in shock, but soon thought about what a great accomplishment it was to have won 50 straight and to have been a part of it. My goal now is to help start a new streak.
Q: What are you doing to improve your game and your contribution to the team?
A: During the off-season I am taking as much opportunity as I can to gain speed, strength, and knowledge. Also, running routes with Reid and the other Quarterbacks helps us stay on point with each other.
Q: What are your favorite moments as a bulldog?
A: The team bonding on the Thursday night dinners and the friendships I was able to build with my teammates during the season.
Q: If you had to pick one football player as your favorite, who would it be and why?
A: Troy Polamalu (#43 of the Pittsburgh Steelers), because of his heart, love of the game, and also his faith.
Q: If you had the responsibility of naming one player from the 2013 Greenwood Bulldog football team as the Bulldog of the Year, who would you have chosen?
A: Grant Morgan, because he was a team leader, even though he was only a Sophomore. He contributed in clutch situations and was huge on defense.
Q: Is there anything you want to tell the fans?
A: The fans are one of the biggest factors in our success, because of the motivation they give us. Even when we are away, we feel like we are always at a Home Game, because of how many people come to support us.
