Hackett Lady Hornets returned to winning ways

The Hackett Lady Hornets traveled to Eureka Springs to take on the Lady Highlanders on Friday December 20. The Lady Hornets evened up their conference record at 1-1 with a 62-23 victory. Two Lady Hornets scored in the double digits: sophomore Drew Davis had 16 point and Junior Brittney Locklear pitched in 12. Hackett brushed off a lackluster first half by scoring 27 in the third frame to put the Lady Highlanders away for good. Eureka Springs was led by Taylor Little’s 10 points. Hackett (4-4) (1-1) will next play in Mansfield’s Bill Frye Christmas Tournament after Christmas.

The Hackett Lady Hornets took on the Paris Lady Eagles in the first game of the Bill Frye Invitational during the Christmas Break on December 27. The Lady Hornets put up a great effort but came up on the losing end of a 49-44 final score. The Lady Hornets (4-5) (1-1) were led by Brittney Locklear’s 17 point effort followed by Drew Davis’ 11 point effort. Hackett carried a 24-21 lead into halftime but were outscored the final two frames 20-28. In the next game of the tournament the Lady Hornets took on the Charleston Lady Tigers and were defeated 45-34. The score was knotted up 26-26 at the half but the Lady Tigers’ 15-6 third quarter was the undoing of the Lady Hornets (4-6) (1-1). The Lady Hornets will play again on January 3 in a non-conference bout with the Hector Lady Wildcats.

The Hackett Lady Hornets hosted the Hector Lady Wildcats on January 3, 2014. The Lady Wildcats dashed the Lady Hornets hopes of ending a 2 game losing streak by a score of 58-62 in a game that took overtime to declare a winner. Hackett held a 29-23 first half lead but a strong second half by the Lady Wildcats knotted the score at 52-52 at the end of regulation. In a game which saw 3 Lady Hornets foul out and the outcome determined by free throws the Lady Wildcats came out victorious. Hector was 15-for-22 from the charity stripe and Hackett was 17-for-26. Junior Brittney Locklear led all scorers with 27 points. The Lady Hornets will host the Magazine Lady Rattlers in a conference 4-2A game on January 7.

The Hackett Lady Hornets returned to their winning ways and snapped a 3 game losing streak on Tuesday January 7 by defeating the Magazine Lady Rattlers at home by a count of 59-47. The Lady Hornets (5-7) (2-1) had 3 players score in double figures in the victory: sophomore Drew Davis had 16, junior Brittney Locklear had 18 and senior Kaitlyn Bailey had 11. Hackett started the game strong and took a 34-20 lead in halftime only to see that lead dwindle to as many as 3 during the third quarter. The Lady Hornets finished the game strong outscoring the Lady Rattlers in the fourth by a count of 14-11. The Lady Rattlers were led in scoring by Brittany Bryan’s 12 points and Heather Bryan’s 10 points. The Lady Hornets also shot a blistering 88% from the free throw line by going 21-24.
