Hornets win one, lose one

The Hackett Lady Hornets traveled to Hartford on Wednesday, December 4 to take on the Lady Rebels of Johnson County Westside in the second game of the Gary Ford Invitational. The Lady Hornets emerged victorious by a count of 44-34. Hackett (3-3) was led by sophomore Macayla Womack’s 10 points followed by sophomore Drew Davis and senior Kaitlyn Bailey’s 8 points apiece. After a 6-6 first quarter tie the Lady Hornets exploded for 20 points in the second and took a 26-11 lead into halftime. The Lady Hornets will travel to Mountainburg for their first conference game on Tuesday December 17.

The Hackett Lady Hornets then traveled to Mountainburg on Tuesday, December 17 to take on the Lady Dragons in the opening game of the conference 4-2A season for both teams. The Lady Hornets fought hard but came up short 39-46. Hackett (3-4),(0-1) were led by junior Brittney Locklear’s 16 points. Mountainburg’s Tara Webb led all scorers netting 20 points for the Lady Dragons (12-1), (1-0). The contest was close throughout with Mountainburg getting a 5 point spurt right before halftime to take a 15-22 lead. Hackett came out and tied the game mid-way through the third quarter at 24-24 only to have Mountainburg take the lead back before the fourth at 27-34. The Lady Hornets outscored the Lady Dragons 13-12 in the final frame but it wasn’t enough. The Lady Hornets will travel to Eureka Springs on Friday December 20 to take on the Lady Highlanders for their second conference 4-2A game of the season before the Christmas break.
