Junior High Basketball: VBFA open with pair of wins

The Van Buren Freshman Academy won both of its games Monday at the Russellvile tournament.

The VBFA Lady Pointers will face the winner of the Russellville-Cabot game Thursday at 6:45 p.m. The Pointers will take on Fayetteville Woodland on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Pointers beat Russellville East 39-15 as London Barlow scored 13 points.

Beau Beckner and Jonny Harms each netted 16 points as Van Buren defeated Cabot South 48-28.

The Lady Pointers jumped to a 14-0 in the

first quarter and was up 26-3 at the break.

The Pointers led 18-2 after the first quarter and 32-9 going into halftime.

Taylar Sutton added nine and Jamilyn Kinney tossed in eight. Addie Outlaw had five for VBFA.

James Montgomery and Logan Thomas chipped in six and five points respectively for the Pointers.

VBFA takes down Springdale George

Jamilyn Kinney scored 27 points as the Lady Pointers beat Springdale George 39-27 on Saturday. The VBFA led 26-0 at halftime. Springdale George cut the lead 30-18 heading into the final quarter.

London Barlow added five, while three others scored two points each.

Beau Beckner and Jonny Harms had 17 points each in the VBFA’s 46-33 win.

The game was a last-minute addition to the schedule to get the teams ready.

Kyle Porter and James Montgomery had five points each.

Lady Airedales win first round

Alma defeated Conway Blue, 46-38, in the first round of the Russellville tournament on Monday.

The Lady Airedales will face Clarksville on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. in the second round.

Kailey Fagan paced Alma with 12 points and Bailey Jones added 11.

Hackett Tournament

Lady Hornets beat Cedarville; Hornets, Pirates suffer losses

Amanda Jones scored 22 points and sank a free throw with 18.7 second remaining in the game to give the Lady Hornets a 34-33 win Monday at the Hackett Junior High Tournament.

The game started slow for both teams, as each held to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first quarter.

Cedarville took a 16-11 lead by halftime and was up 23-21 heading into the fourth quarter.

Destiny Freeman added six points for the Lady Hornets (4-2).

The Hornets had their five-game winning string snapped Monday night as the Golden Arrows took an early lead and won 47-38.

Lavaca led 11-8 after the first quarter and 22-17 heading into the break.

Dalton Reeves led with 26 points while Trevor Marvin and Zack Mackay added seven and five points respectively.

Eighth Grade

Northridge advances

The Northridge eighth grade team defeated Charleston 44-34 in the Ozark junior high tournament on Monday night.

Ryan Hewett led with 11 points. Caleb Salisbury and Weston Graham had 10 points each.

Northridge faces West Fork on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
