Senior Celeste Gish shot a 15-over par 155 to lead the UAFS women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish last Tuesday in the 15th annual Northeastern State University Classic at Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa, Okla.
UAFS shot an 82-over 642 (319-323) and finished 33 strokes behind classic winner Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns shot a 49-over 609 (309-300) and edged runner-up Southwestern Oklahoma State by 10 strokes. The Lady Bulldogs shot a 59-over 619 (316-303).
The Lady Lions were playing in their first tournament of the fall season and were the only Heartland Conference team in the 11-team field.
Gish shot rounds of 77-78 and finished 10th in the 57-player field. Freshman Anne Stiles shot a 22-over 162 (78-84) and finished 14th, junior Taylor Arnold shot a 24-over 164 (83-81) as did junior Molly Franks (81-83) and finished tied for 18th and sophomore Mikayla Rosser shot a 25-over 165 (84-81).
Arkansas Tech’s Megan Jeffery, Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Ana-Laura Gomez and Northeastern State’s Baylee Price each shot a 6-over 149 to finish tied for first place, but Jeffery birdied the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors.
