Lady Lions Sweep War Hawks

Already sitting atop the Heartland Conference, the UAFS volleyball team created a little more separation at the top on Thursday night at the Stubblefield Center.

UAFS held off repeated upset attempts by McMurry University on its way to a sweep. The Lady Lions won the match 26-24, 25-15, 25-23 to improve to 6-0 in conference play. UAFS will resume conference play at noon on Saturday when it hosts league nemesis St. Edward’s University in its annual Dig for a Cure Match, which promotes breast cancer awareness and research.

Junior middle hitter Michelle Walker led a trio of Lady Lions with double-digit kills with 15, while freshman outside hitter Payton Hamilton and senior outside hitter Jordan Pickett had 12 kills apiece.

Senior setter Stephanie Brock had 44 assists, while freshman libero Emily Tripp had 22 digs.

UAFS held McMurry to just a 0.189 hitting percentage, and the War Hawks had no player with double-digit kills. Kayla Hines led the War Hawks with nine kills. Peyton Edwards had 21 assists, while Taylor Seaton and Ayssa Garcia had 17 digs apiece.
