The fifth annual ShellShocked Outdoors Kids Fishing Derby was once again a huge success. The Derby was held on May 24, 2014. This Derby was a lot of fun for the members of the Board of ShellShocked Outdoors. This was the fifth year ShellShocked has put the derby on for the local kids in Greenwood. The derby has always been free for kids under the age of fifteen. Little fishermen, parents, grandparents, neighbors and just good folks showed up for all of the fun this year. Hundreds enjoyed the morning of fishing. ShellShocked Outdoors supplied the bait and bobbers for the kids to use. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked the pond at Ossie Louise Park with 450 fish this year. The kids took home a total of 331 fish that were caught during the Derby. Several kids were practicing the catch and release method of fishing, thus releasing all of their catches back into the pond. The biggest fish caught was a 20 inch Channel Catfish, the smallest fish was a 4 inch Perch and the most fish caught by one person was 34. The Sponsors for this year’s Derby were First National Bank of Greenwood and Fort Smith, A to Z Sporting Goods of Alma, Spirit 106.3 Radio, Eastside Convenience Store, the Shell gas station, and the Greenwood Walmart. The Derby was such a success; the Board of Directors at ShellShocked Outdoors is considering adding an additional derby to the 2015 schedule.
